Jon & Kate: Redux
Oh, I promised myself I wouldn't do it.
(Hell, I kinda promised TLC I wouldn't do it either...but I don't think they're going to bother me again...)
Still, this genetic jackhammer has entered my home (in hi-def, no less) for the last time. I've had enough.
I need to do my part, to put an end to everyone's favorite mentally deficient bastion of fertility, Kate Gosselin, of the bottom-feeding phenomenon, "Jon & Kate Plus Eight."
I'm going to assume that I don't need to fill you in on who these two people are. Anyone with access to "Entertainment Tonight" (or as West Virginians call it, "the news") knows that the lovely couple above are the breakout stars of TLC's hit show about a woman who spawned twins and sextuplets, and the man that is forced to love her.
That's right - they're the stars. Not the kids.
Admittedly, having sextuplets is quite a feat. But then again, for her, maybe it wasn't. She was a bad, bad girl as a teenager, and rumors indicate that her legs opened in more cities than "Lord of the Rings."
(I'm just sayin...)
You probably recognize him from these tabloid shows, because he recently decided to hit the town with a friend (by "hit the town," I mean "get loaded at the local Ramada", and by "friend" I mean, "female he's likely drilling when not contemplating a murder alibi for his drain of a wife.")
Here's 33-year old Jon with a few of his age-inappropriate friends.
Ahhh, bourbon and coke -- the official drink of the falsely devout...
Anyway, to recap from my last trip down this ugly road, I started out as a mild fan of this show. Wifey was preggo-fabulous, and I somewhat sympathized with Jon, the hapless husband who always seemed a few seconds away from breaking open a bottle of pills and ending it all. It was mindless fluff, but it was harmless.
More importantly, it made us think about the challenges we faced in the months to come, as young(ish) first time parents.
But then something changed. Kate, the supposed "Mom to end all Moms," decided that television was a perfect medium to chastise, berate, embarrass and emasculate her Christian life partner.
Then it got worse, when she ousted her own sister-in-law from the show, followed by her elderly neighbor, because the network wanted to throw a few bucks their way. Kate dropped to the floor and stamped her tentacles until the network caved and gave the Gosselins a raise instead.
Then it really got worse.
Since I last spoke of these two, they've gotten rich...very rich. Kate now leaves all of the parenting to the camera crew while she visits every neon-crossed thumper church in North America. She charges thousands of dollars per visit, then -- because getting everything else for free isn't enough -- has the unmitigated gall to ask churchgoers for "love offerings" to her family. Each appearance rakes in five digits, just for spouting her valuable words of inspiration.
(Of course, her new target audience is young women who are taking fertility drugs in hopes of landing their own TV deal...but I digress.)
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Kate, as well as bitter, disgruntled singles everywhere, Jon has consistently been painted as the "bad guy." Now, I'm not saying he's innocent -- quite the contrary, actually. He hasn't exactly done much to remove his family from the camera lens, and not for anything, but he really should try and nut up just once, if only to tell Kate what a mental vacuum she truly is.
But he doesn't, so he's guilty by association. My sympathy train derailed a long time ago. Jon's a doormat, and he'll always be a doormat. Just ask the photographers who caught him sneaking out the back entrance of a motel's cocktail lounge.
Sap.
Still, I can see why he might want to hide. If you were having some marital difficulties, would you deal with it by insulting your husband on "Larry King Live?" Probably not.
But she did...
Love is blind. But apparently, divorce comes syndicated in 12 languages.
My intention today isn't just to get cheap laughs (though they do help) but rather to halt this undeserving money train and get them removed from the air. Immediately.
Enough of the fake parenting, and all-too-real real deception. Enough stealing from churches in the name of "family." Enough whining about how you work just a little bit harder than everyone else, to keep your young, impressionable children in line.
Enough of the bullshit. Kate, you are a fraud. Jon, you are a fool. It's time to salvage your children so they don't end up like either of you -- money-grubbing, false prophets for a TV generation. If everyone who's ever watched the show suddenly realized this, then the show would mercifully end, and those love offerings could be used for something more valuable...
...like therapy for the kids...
Jon, if you want to make this right, stop sneaking around and speak your mind the way your wife does -- on camera, humiliating her tummytucked mug in front of the world. Tell her you don't love her. Tell her why you would rather be with the tranny Hugh Grant got caught with than stay married to her. Tell her how she's made you want to be a better man...for someone else, in a state far, far away. Tell her that her haircut makes you want to beat up a blind emo kid with a dead chicken.
Tell her that if there was no cameras or paydays, you'd be discussing visitation rights and alimony.
Tell her to shove her fake, self-righteous attitude squarely up her own OCD-riddled ass.
Now, I can see the comments section already:
"But Brad, why do you care?"
"If you don't like it don't watch..."
"You must be jealous of their success."
"Kate is a hero to all fake Christian women everywhere!"
Yeah, yeah. I fielded about 60 of these inane comments the last time, and I fully expect that again. That's fine -- it's what comments sections are for. And truth be told, I don't really know why I care as much as I do.
But then again, I do know. I'm a new father, with an amazing wife who works harder with one child than Kate ever will with any of her brood. I'm not saying Melysa seeks recognition for simply being a good parent. I'm saying that she's a good parent for simply not seeking recognition. Parenthood is its own reward, Kate. Maybe someday you'll find that out by becoming one.
I also know this:
I know Kate lies.
I know Jon cheats.
And every time they collect a fee, they both steal.
According to the ol' King James version, that's three strikes, jack. And though I don't read the Bible, or claim to be a good Catholic, I know which sections carry more weight.
For the sake of their already damaged children, as well as for the young women everywhere who now believe it's okay to let others raise your family while you humiliate your husband -- let's make this stop.

I have to confess, I have never seen this show, but your post was a total eye opener (and made me LMAO as usual). This realty TV generation has gotten way out of hand. These people should just be the normal hideous divorce story instead of the money train they are. And the sheepish public is to blame. It blows my mind that these two jerks have only been on T.V. for a little more than two years. They've changed so much, in such little time. Someone else had made the comment that they are like white trash who won the lottery, I think that is J&K to a tee. They truly sicken me.

I just want to thank all of you for saying such nice things about my random venting. It is very much appreciated.
For the newcomers, please know that this isn't just a random attack against some mainstream figures (though I have been known to do that from time to time...)
I am a new family man. I have a ten month old daughter, and a wife who works as hard as anyone to keep her happy, healthy and safe while I'm off writing for a living. I don't deserve her, but she keeps me around anyway.
J&K was a nice distraction while Melysa was pregnant. But when the focus of the show became about Kate and her incessant berating of Jon, rather than about those great kids, I tuned out. When I tuned back in, it had only gotten worse.
So, while my vitriol was aimed for entertainment, and I took the obligatory cheap shots at the fragility of J&K's supposed "union" it was all done out of frustration for the children. They will likely never lead a normal life, regardless of how many luxuries this show has provided.
So, again, thanks for coming by and checking out my snark. This isn't a Jon and Kate blog, nor will it ever be, but all the same, I'm glad I'm not alone in how I feel.

Agree with your comments 100%. These two are frauds, they definitely should not be getting paid nor be televised, unless they go on Jerry Springer. While Jon is passive-aggressive, immature (clearly wishes he was still 20-something and a ski bum), and appears to be developing quite a problem with alcohol, Kate is truly vile. Vengeful, petty, selfish, and a tyrant in her own home -- she embodies the phony Christian right like no other!

I'm of the opinion that as society continues to degenerate at the speed of cable, segments of Americans viewers firmly believe that the behavior of "reality stars" is acceptable. Moreover, as more people view these types of show, the more we see the outrageous behaviors exhibited on cable spill into public.
I have virtually stopped watching anything that is remotely considered "reality television" as I must guard my eye and ear gates (A refererence to speaker Keith Harrell) to prevent contamination of my inner happiness and peace.

Why is their scam so obvious to me and others and yet there are those who will not see it? There is a little corner in hell for people who use their "faith" to scam poor little ole' church ladies out of their prescription money and these two will be joining the Bakers where they can swap stories for eternity. Their families must be really embarassed as we don't hear a peep out of them.

Dude...NAILED IT!! I have been railing against Kate's treatment of Jon and his passive-aggressive act for months now. Thanks for putting this in perspective. Those kids need parents now more than ever, but these two self-absorbed fools are out and about, Kate on whatever show/pulpit will pay her and Jon in any bar that has 20 somethings as patrons. LOSERS!! My hope is that these idiots wake up before their kids end up too damaged.

BRAVO!!!!! Kate is a train wreck who is pruposely bringing down her family for every penny she can get from hapless Christian hypocrite woman who buy fertility drugs from a Mexician clinic.
This woman has NEVER been a mother and from I have heard she ONLY had kids for the so-called "publicity factor". Kate was never infertile, hell, ask her family that. She wanted multiples and she did not care how she got them. Her own mother admitted it.She used her job as a nurse to con a doctor into believing this fake infertility problem. When the twins her born Kate had her hand out then, to her community and when she had over-active ovaries she was hospitalized and her doctors told her that they would NOT to go forward with any insemination, but Kate went a head anyway, against her doctors orders, and had got pregnant the old fashion way. Her doctors, family and Jon was floored and angry that she pruposely got pregnant with a high-order multiple birth. She did it because she wanted to use her children for publicity and money and she did not to work. This is not new. Ask her home town. Jon told his work that he will never have to work again because his wife was pregnant with sextuplets.This is FACT.
Jon cheats because his wife is a cold hearted witch. Kate is a selfish, mean, greedy person who will do anything or use anyone for money, even her own children.
Jon & Kate have been scamming their community for 9+ years and the public for 4+ years of it. The only difference between the two was that their community caught on real quick, while the public still believes this fake, "I am so tired and I work so hard for my 8 kids", crap.

You are so right on. I emailed CNN, and Musings from the Moon on the subject of Jon and Kate Gosselin. First timer. I don't know why I care so much either. All I know is that I love it when hypocracy is exposed. When these people accept "love donations" from churches, I don't know if I'm more upset with them or the churchgoers. How about making donations to actual charities? I'm furious at our so called news media for never getting to the bottom of anything, and totally ignoring the real issue which is the exploitation of these children, and the glorification of people who have "multiples." These resource hogs do not deserve our admiration.

Why do people think that family reality TV shows are a good thing? I'm old enough to remember "An American Family," which was the grandaddy of all reality shows from way back in 1973. Believe it or not, PBS broadcast it and it was considered "groundbreaking" at the time. If you go and read about the Loud family (that was their name), you can tell that being filmed was very, very hard on them.
I'm wondering if the people who came up with "An American Family" would still do it, considering (a) what havoc it caused in the Loud family and (b) what it's led to over the last 35+ years. I'd like to think maybe not.

Great post. I stopped watching that show a long time ago. I cannot watch Kate humilate her husband and watch both parent's treat their paychecks (the kids) like dirt. Honestly, when Kate wouldn't let one of the kids have one lousy slice of strawberry it made my skin crawl and when she made one of the sick kids lay on the cold laundry room floor. I want this show to end.

My 84 year old mother worships at the J&K altar. I have explained to her that it is the exploitation of their children which is so unsettling and just WRONG! Let the two of them be the new Jim and Tammy Baker... but don't drag these poor 8 kiddos through the muck.
I have 8 cats which I admit I have gone viral with them and their little lives- on I Can Has Cheezburger and Cute with Chris. They will never know what I have done. Even though I think I had the stage mother gene- I didn't do this to my human children because they don't have the ability as children to say- don't exploit me!
Those poor kids will need all the love offerings they collect for the psychiatrists' bills they will incur!

It is disgusting to me that some leaders of churches have allowed these two Kons to enter their doors, applauded their behavior and gave them credence as worthy role models to young or gullible parents.Says a lot about this day and age.

Jon and Kate have attended my church in Reading for the past few years... or I should say that they make an 'apperance' at my church when they aren't in NYC, LA or Chicago promoting themselves and eating out at Mr. Chow's.....As soon as they pull into the parking lot - church security goes into action to quickly escort them in!!!!! THEY EVEN HAVE RESERVED SEATING the ushers wish them to!!!!! IT MAKES ME SICK!!!! I can't even worship privatly in my own CHURCH because of them!

Remember, J&K fraud has signed a secret agreement 6 months ago that their marriage is finished, and they are forced to "live together" for the public's sake(and $$$, of course). It is no shocking news for J&K when they have affairs with schoolteacher and bodyguard. TLC executives would sorely miss their nice paychecks when this show is canceled.
"Profile of the Sociopath
Sociopaths are people without a conscience. They don't have the normal empathy the rest of us take for granted. They don't feel affection. They don't care about others. But most of them are good observers, and they have learned how to mimic those feelings remarkably well.
Most people with a conscience find it very difficult to even imagine what it would be like to be without one. Combine this with their efforts to blend in, and what you get is most sociopaths go undetected. They are capable of mimicking emotions like professional actors. The reason this is a problem is that they wreak havoc on their family, on people they work with, and on anyone who tries to be their friend. They deceive, take what they want, and hurt people without any remorse. They don't feel guilty or feel sorry for what they've done. They go through life taking what they want and giving nothing back. They manipulate and deceive and convincingly lie without the slightest second thought. They leave a path of confusion and upset in their wake.
Sociopaths don't have normal affection with other people. They don't feel attached to others. They don't feel love. And that is why they don't have a conscience. If you harmed someone, even someone you didn't know, you would feel guilt and remorse. Why? Because you have a natural affinity for other human beings. You know how it feels to suffer, to fear, to feel anguish. You care about others. And if you hurt someone you love, the guilt and remorse would be very bad because of your affection for him or her. Take that attachment and affection away and you take away remorse, guilt, and any kind of normal feelings of fairness.
Some researchers say only about one percent of the general population are sociopaths. Others put the figure at three or four percent. But clearly sociopaths are fairly common and not easy to detect. Even when the evidence is staring you in the face, you may have difficulty admitting that someone you know, someone you trusted, even someone you love, is a sociopath. But the sooner you admit it, the faster your life can return to normal. Face the facts and you may save yourself a lot of suffering.
Do you often feel used by them? Have you often felt that they don’t care about you? Do they lie and deceive you? Do they tend to make contradictory statements? Do they tend to take from you and not give back much? Do they often appeal to pity? Do they seem to try to make you feel sorry for them? Do they try to make you feel guilty? Do you sometimes feel they are taking advantage of your good nature? Do they seem easily bored and need constant stimulation? Do they use a lot of flattery? Do they interact with you in a way that makes you feel flattered even if they say nothing overtly complimentary? Do they make you feel worried? Do they do it obviously or more cleverly and sneakily? Do they give you the impression you owe them? Do they chronically fail to take responsibility for harming others? Do they blame everyone and everything but themselves?
And do they do these things far more than the other people in your life? If you answered yes to many of these, you may be dealing with a sociopath. If you find yourself often pitying someone who consistently hurts you or other people, and who actively campaigns for your sympathy, the chances are close to one hundred percent that you are dealing with a sociopath.
What do they want? This is an interesting question. Of course most people have purposes that are strongly influenced by our connections and affections with others. Our relationships with others, and our love for them, give us most of the meaning in life. So if a sociopath doesn't have these things, what is left? What kind of purposes do they have? The answer is chilling: They want to win. Take away love and relationships and all you have left is winning the game, whatever the game is decided to be. If they are in business, it is becoming rich. If it is sibling rivalry, it is defeating the sibling. If it is a contest, the goal is to dominate. If a sociopath is the envious sort, winning would be making the other lose, or fail, or be frustrated, or embarrassed.
A sociopath's goal is to win. And he is willing to do anything at all to win. And sociopaths have nothing else to think about, so they can be very clever and conniving. Sociopaths are not busy being concerned with relationships or moral dilemmas or conflicting feelings, so they have much more time to think about clever ways to gain your trust and stab you in the back, and how do it without anyone knowing what's happening.
One of the questions above was about boredom. This is a real problem for sociopaths and they seem fanatically driven to prevent boredom. The reason it looms so large for them (and seems so strange to us) is that our relationships with people occupy a good amount of our time and attention. Take that away and all you have is "playing to win" which is rather shallow and empty in comparison. So boredom is a constant problem for sociopaths and they have an incessant urge to keep up a level of stimulation, even negative stimulation (drama, worry, upset, etc.).
Research shows sociopaths don't feel emotions the same way normal people do. For example, they don't experience fear as unpleasant. This goes a long way to explaining the inexplicable behavior you'll see in sociopaths. Some feelings that you and I might find intolerable might not bother them at all.
Summary: They make you feel sorry for them. They make you feel worried or afraid. They give you the impression you owe them. They make you feel used. Sometimes you suspect they don't care about you. They lie to you and deceive you. They take a lot from you and give back very little. They make you feel guilty (and use that to manipulate you). They take advantage of your kindness. They are easily bored and need constant stimulation. They don't take responsibility but place blame elsewhere.
Common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths
Glibness and Superficial Charm: They appear to be charming at times, and make relationships, but to them, these are relationships in name only. They are ended whenever necessary or when it suits them, and the relationships are without depth or meaning, including marriages. They seem to have an innate ability to find the weakness in people, and are ready to use these weaknesses to their own ends through deceit, manipulation, or intimidation, and gain pleasure from doing so.
Manipulative and Conning: They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
Grandiose Sense of Self: Feels entitled to things as "their right."
Pathological Lying: Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt: A deep-seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
Shallow Emotions/Incapacity for Love: When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
Need for Stimulation: Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
Callousness/Lack of Empathy: Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature: Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency: Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
Irresponsibility/Unreliability: Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity: Sexual acting out of all sorts.
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle: Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility: Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.
Other Related Qualities:
1. Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
2. Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
3. Authoritarian
4. Secretive
5. Paranoid
6. Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
7. Conventional appearance
8. Goal of enslavement of their victim(s)
9. Exercises despotic control over every aspect of the victim's life
10. Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
11. Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim
12. Incapable of real human attachment to another
13. Unable to feel remorse or guilt
14. Extreme narcissism and grandiose
15. May state readily that their goal is to rule the world"
WOW! I thought I was "alone" in my shear disgust at Kate and Jon. I am a father of triplet boys (age 2-1/2). I have not even thought about using my families "unique" quality to seek some finiancial gain. You literally took the words right out of my mouth.
One more thing...I'm starting to think Jon actually wanted to get caught "cheating". Not only to "get out" of the hell Kate has created, but to undermine her cash-flow.

To be Honest ,I never liked Kate and she does look silly with that hair.Yet Jon disappoints me , I was really waiting for him to defend himself but he's certainly shown us he's nothing but a baby complaining the way she acts on tv then doing something like , oh i don't know , insult her , scream at her ,tell her to stop but TLC would cut that scene.Anyways, I do feel bad for the kids .
